20.8 Million Medicare Beneficiaries Are Getting a $90 Rebate
Laura Bennett
Updated Oct 6, 2026
About 20.8 million Medicare beneficiaries are eligible for a one-time $90 rebate in October, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Most eligible people are expected to receive a direct deposit on or around Oct. 8, while others will receive a paper Treasury check later in the month.
The payment is intended to offset one month of Medicare Part B premium costs. It is not going to every Medicare enrollee, so the key question is whether a beneficiary falls inside the eligibility rules CMS published with the payment.
The Payment Is One Time, Not a Permanent Benefit Increase
CMS describes the money as a single $90 premium rebate for October 2026. Beneficiaries should not treat it as a new recurring monthly payment or a change to the regular Social Security benefit amount.
Some Part B Enrollees Are Excluded
Most Part B enrollees qualify, but CMS says people whose Part B premiums are already paid by Medicaid and people who pay an Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount are not eligible. Medicare Advantage enrollment can also affect eligibility depending on how the premium is handled.
Direct Deposit Comes First for Most Eligible People
CMS says most eligible beneficiaries should see the $90 by direct deposit around Oct. 8. Beneficiaries who do not receive payments electronically are expected to get a Treasury check later in October.
The Practical Check Is Whether the Payment Arrives by the Expected Method
Because the payment is automatic for eligible beneficiaries, there is no separate claim form described by CMS. The immediate reader action is to understand the eligibility rules and watch the same account or mailing address Medicare already has on file.
