Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff filed for divorce on October 30, moving to end their three-year marriage several months after separating. Court records list the Brooklyn case as an uncontested matrimonial action, with Qualley as plaintiff and Antonoff as defendant.
Attorneys for the actor and music producer did not immediately respond to AP’s requests for comment. A source close to the pair separately told People that the decision to file was mutual.
The filing follows a July breakup and comes as Antonoff has spoken publicly about continuing to perform songs written during the relationship. His account offers a perspective on how the separation intersects with work that remains part of his band’s live repertoire.
From a 2023 Wedding to a July Split
Qualley and Antonoff began dating in 2021 and married in August 2023 in New Jersey. Their wedding drew guests from both film and music, including Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz, NBC reported.
People reported the separation July 8. Two days later, Qualley’s representative confirmed the breakup while disputing speculation about why it happened.
“There are no trust issues. There was no infidelity or anything outside of respect and partnership in this relationship,” the representative said in a statement carried by People and NBC.
The representative said the two retained deep affection and asked for privacy. The October filing did not include a public explanation from either party about the terms of their separation.
People’s source described the divorce decision as mutual and said the pair expected to remain friends. Those comments came from an unnamed source close to the couple, rather than a new joint statement from Qualley and Antonoff.
Antonoff Keeps the Songs in His Set
In a recent Guardian interview quoted by People, Antonoff discussed the challenge of singing material connected to Qualley after their split. Bleachers released “Everyone for Ten Minutes” in May, with several songs about the relationship.
He said he had considered what performing that work would feel like but ultimately decided that changing the set to avoid it would conflict with the honesty he promised his audience.
“I don’t rewrite the past, I have no shame about the things I’ve said,” he said.
Antonoff described value in sharing the experience with listeners who knew both the songs’ origins and their changed context. He said he could not pretend earlier good times had not existed because the relationship later became painful.
Two Careers Continue Alongside the Filing
Qualley, 32, is known for “The Substance” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Antonoff, 42, is a Grammy-winning songwriter and producer whose collaborators include Swift, Del Rey and Sabrina Carpenter, in addition to his work with Bleachers.
The court action begins divorce proceedings; it is not a public announcement of a final judgment or settlement. The available accounts did not disclose financial terms.
For Antonoff, the relationship’s history also remains present onstage. “I would rather live through something publicly than even escape it privately,” he told the Guardian, according to People.
