Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban did not merely promise to keep their divorce civil. They put it in writing. Their settlement bars either parent from speaking negatively about the other - or the other’s extended family - while giving Kidman 306 parenting days a year and Urban 59.

The marriage ended quickly by celebrity standards, with no alimony, no child support, and no drawn-out courtroom spectacle. But the public court terms reveal how carefully the former couple engineered the breakup.

The Partnership That Came Apart

They met in January 2005 at a Hollywood gala, two Australians navigating the same industry. Urban proposed within months. They married in June 2006 in Sydney. Four months into the marriage, Urban entered rehab for addiction. Kidman staged the intervention and chose to stay. He later credited that decision in public, including a 2024 tribute in which he described what it meant that she had not left. By the summer of 2025, they had quietly separated. Kidman filed in September 2025. The settlement was reached before the filing - the terms were negotiated in private before the public announcement.

The Parenting Split Written Into the Deal

Kidman is the primary residential parent for their daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith, 15. The girls spend 306 days of the year with her. Urban gets every other weekend, totaling 59 days annually. The schedule was built around his touring calendar, not around any conflict between the parents. Neither party sought spousal support or child support. Both parties’ incomes exceed $100,000 per month, according to the filing.

June 25, 2026, would have been their 20th wedding anniversary. It passed without public statement from either. Urban marked Kidman’s 59th birthday in June with an Instagram post using only her middle name.

The Clause That Controls What They Can Say

TMZ obtained and published the divorce court documents on January 6, 2026. Fox News Digital independently confirmed the terms, including the parenting schedule and the no-bad-mouthing clause. Cultura Colectiva published a reported retrospective on June 25, 2026, drawing on the court documents and sourcing Kidman’s March 2026 public statement in which she said she was staying in a place of “we are a family.”

Why No Money Changed Hands

Both remain based in Nashville. Urban has returned to touring. Sunday Rose turns 18 in the coming year. When she does, the custody schedule expires by operation of Tennessee family law - the same mechanism that ended the Pitt-Jolie case this week. The no-bad-mouthing clause carries no equivalent expiration date. The agreement requires silence. So far, both have kept it.
