Producers of The Deb are asking a Los Angeles judge to sanction Rebel Wilson over testimony and discovery conduct they describe as dishonest. The request, filed in the producers’ defamation case against Wilson, is scheduled for an Oct. 22 hearing.
The producers’ lawyers accuse Wilson of false testimony, evidence manipulation and deletion of material tied to the case. Wilson’s attorney rejects that characterization, calling the motion another attempt to malign her and saying a detailed opposition is being prepared.
The Motion Seeks More Than a Routine Discovery Penalty
The filing asks for sanctions that could include financial penalties, limits on evidence or, at the most severe end, terminating sanctions. Those are requests by the plaintiffs, not remedies the judge has granted.
The Fight Centers on What Wilson Said and What Was Produced
The producers point to sworn statements about a demand letter, disputed websites and an Instagram video. Their lawyers argue later-discovered material contradicts Wilson’s earlier testimony; Wilson’s side says the filing turns contested accusations into purported facts.
The New Motion Lands on Top of a Case Already Headed Toward Trial
Wilson has also filed a countersuit, and the underlying defamation dispute has already survived dismissal and appellate review. MyNewsLA reported that Wilson was seeking to continue an Oct. 5 trial date by at least four months, showing how the sanctions fight is now intertwined with the trial schedule.
Oct. 22 Will Test Whether the Allegations Produce a Court Consequence
The strongest unresolved point is no longer whether the opposing sides accuse each other of misconduct; they do. The next meaningful question is whether Judge Thomas Long imposes any sanction after Wilson files her response.
