Court records from Jason Galanis’s earlier divorce listed more than $100 million in financial liabilities assigned to him, according to documents reported by TMZ on October 28. The disclosure has attracted attention because Galanis is now engaged to reality television personality Savannah Chrisley. The figures describe obligations in a 2018 judgment; they do not establish that the same total remains unpaid today.
The paperwork reportedly assigned Galanis $37 million in restitution, forfeiture amounts of approximately $37 million and $43 million, and about $12 million in taxes. It also listed a personal guarantee of roughly $8 million to $9 million. Adding those numbers produces an exceptionally large sum, but doing so without checking whether obligations overlap would risk misstating his financial position. TMZ explicitly noted that the records do not show how much remains outstanding.
What the divorce court addressed
New reporting October 28 supplied a more current account of separate financial claims. The U.S. Sun reported roughly $7.2 million in outstanding federal and state tax liens and cited a $17.29 million civil judgment dating to 2020. These are different records from the 2018 divorce allocation, and the figures should not simply be added together: the same underlying liabilities could appear in more than one proceeding. The report also identified a federal lien for $1.66 million that had been satisfied in 2019.
The judgment involved Galanis and his former wife, Monet Berger. According to TMZ’s account, the court assigned liabilities arising from his conduct to Galanis rather than Berger. The report also said Berger had limited knowledge of the couple’s remaining finances because they maintained separate accounts and records. Those details make the allocation of responsibility in the divorce decree more important than a single eye-catching total.
Galanis has a separate federal criminal history involving securities fraud. His sentence was commuted by President Donald Trump in 2025. A commutation changes the imprisonment imposed by a sentence, but it does not, by itself, establish that civil or financial obligations listed in unrelated court records disappear. The precise status of the individual liabilities would require more recent records or confirmation from the relevant parties.
Why the old numbers are resurfacing
A separate report by Page Six described a 2012 dispute over a custom diamond bracelet, but noted that the resulting judgment was satisfied that year. The paid judgment is evidence that the existence of an old court obligation does not necessarily establish what remains due now. The central unresolved issue is how much of the documented tax, restitution and civil liability remains collectible after subsequent payments, judgments or changes to the record.
The disclosure arrives amid public attention to Galanis’s engagement to Chrisley and their plans for a family. The reported dollar amounts belong to Galanis’s historical divorce proceedings, not to Chrisley’s personal finances.
TMZ also reported that the 2018 judgment described Galanis as serving a federal sentence at the time and said his former wife had maintained separate financial records during their marriage. That history helps explain why the court assigned responsibility for the specified liabilities to one party. A divorce judgment can record obligations without showing how later payments, adjustments or enforcement actions changed the balance.
There is no basis in the cited documents to assume Chrisley is responsible for obligations recorded years before their engagement. Nor do the figures alone establish his present assets, income or repayment history. The record’s clearest documented outcome is narrower: in 2018, the divorce court allocated substantial liabilities to Galanis and sought to separate them from Berger’s obligations.
